Giles Kyser

Colonel, US Marine Corps (Retired)

Giles Kyser was born October 13, 1961 at Camp Pendleton, California the son of MGySgt and Mrs. James G. Kyser III USMC (retired), is a 1981 graduate of the Marine Military Academy Preparatory School and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1985.

After commissioning he attended The Basic School and Infantry Officer's Course and reported to 2d Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment at Camp LeJeune in May of 1986. While assigned to 2/4, Lieutenant Kyser served as a Rifle Platoon Commander, Rifle Company Executive Officer, Heavy Machine Gun Platoon Commander and Weapons Company Executive Officer completing deployments to Panama, 29 Palms, Okinawa and the Mediterranean with the 24th MEU (SOC).

Ordered to Marine Barracks Washington, D.C. in April 1989, Lieutenant Kyser served first as Platoon Commander, 1st Platoon, Company A, and subsequently as Platoon Commander, Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon. After promotion to Captain, he served as Executive Officer for Company A, deploying with the company as part of the 2d Marine Division during Operations DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM. After returning from the Persian Gulf, he assumed duties as the Assistant Operations Officer for the Barracks until October of 1992 when he reported to Fort Benning, Georgia to attend the U.S. Army Infantry Officer's Course. Graduating with honors in April 1993, Captain Kyser then served as Commanding Officer, Company F, 2d Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment where he completed deployments to the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, 29 Palms, Okinawa and Korea. In December of 1994, Captain Kyser reported to 2d ANGLICO as the Current Operations Officer and was selected to Major and subsequently served as Executive Officer, 2d Force Reconnaissance Company until July 1996.

In August 1996, Major Kyser reported to Quantico, Virginia to attend the Marine Corps Command and Staff College. He graduated with honors and a Masters Degree in Military Studies in June of 1997 and subsequently attended the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia completing Joint Professional Military Education Phase II.

Departing Norfolk, Major Kyser assumed duties as the Current Operations Officer at the Special Operations Command, Europe in Stuttgart, Germany. While assigned to Current Operations, he participated in Operation IRON GLANCE in Bosnia and served as the Chief of Staff and Plans Officer for the Combined-Joint Special Task Force in Sarajevo during Operations JOINT GUARD and JOINT FORGE. Re-assigned within SOCEUR to Contingency Operations, he participated in Operation ALLIED FORCE as a member of Joint Special Operations Task Force-NOBLE ANVIL, Operation JOINT GUARDIAN as part of the Combined-Joint Task Force-Kosovo-Force (KFOR), and as the Operations Officer for Joint Special Operations Task Force ATLAS RESPONSE conducting Humanitarian Operations in Mozambique.

    Major Kyser transferred to Headquarters Marine Corps in June 2000 as a Watch Officer at the Marine Corps Command Center and after  promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, assumed duties as the head, MAGTF Special Operations Section of the Expeditionary Policy Branch  in June 2001. He was selected for command and after leaving Headquarters, Marine Corps, assumed command of 2d Battalion, 2d          Marines in July, 2003. The Battalion then served as the Contingency Alert Force for Operation NOBLE EAGLE and subsequently deployed to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM II from March through October of 2004. He turned over command of 2/2 in the spring of 2005 and reported to the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (ICAF) at the National Defense University.

    LtCol Kyser graduated with honors from ICAF in June 2006 and was the recipient of the MajGen Harold Mashburn Leadership Award. Promoted to Colonel on 2 October 2006, he served as the Military Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict until April 2007 and served his final active duty tour as the Military Assistant and Chief of Staff for the Deputy Under Secretary of the Navy.

    Colonel Kyser's personal awards from the Marine Corps include the Legion of Merit with Gold Star in lieu of second award, the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism on September 11th, the Bronze Star with combat “V” and Gold Star in lieu of second award, the Combat Action Ribbon with Gold Star and more than forty-five other personal and campaign awards. He is also an Eagle Scout.

    Within industry, Mr. Kyser assumed the position as the Vice President for Special Operations and Irregular Warfare for Selex Galileo Inc. in April 2009 and was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in March 2010 where he revitalized the SELEX Galileo Inc. strategic direction to include the emerging market areas of Special Operations Support, technology insertion/integration and unmanned systems and ISR technology growing domestic revenues by 130% in two years. He also served as a Senior Executive with MIC Industries, LaserLock Technologies and as the Manger for National Security Infrastructure with Cochrane USA. He is currently the Senior Vice President with AirBoss Defense.
